Formwork for Concrete Construction

Formwork is a temporary or permanent moulds which used to support poured concrete in shape and hold it till it gains its ultimate strength and hardens properly. It is also called shuttering. Formwork can be classified in many ways on basis of Type of material used, by the concrete element supported, Removable or permanent. 20-25% of the cost of structure or even more is required for the formwork. Formwork take time. This temporary formwork should designed economically. When formwork is removed, the operation of removing called stripping and this stripping formwork can be reused. Reusable formwork are called as panel forms and non-usable are called stationary forms. Timber is the most common material used for formwork. The disadvantage with timber formwork is that it will warp, swell and shrink. A better Formwork should satisfy the following requirements: Joints should be enough tight so that leakage of cement grout can be avoided. Formwork has to be strong enough to handle d
